Sole Trader

There are many advantages to being a sole trader;

  • You can make decisions quickly
  • You will be the sole benefactor of any profits made in the business

On the flip side, as a sole trader or self-employed business person, all the responsibilities of running the business fall on your shoulders. If your business suffers losses you are solely responsible.

As a sole trader you must comply with the following regulatory requirements;

  • You will need to submit Self Assessment Tax Returns with the Revenue Commissioners on an annual basis.
  • You may or may not be required to register for VAT, depending on your income levels.


Should you set up as a sole trader or limited company? 

We will help you decide which option is best for you and your circumstances. If you decide to set up a limited company we can take care of the company formation process on your behalf.

Should you register for VAT?

You may not need to register for VAT immediately but as your business grows you will need to start paying VAT on goods and services sold. We can set you up online and even act as your agents with the Revenue Commissioners for you.

As a startup business, we can also help you explore if there are any grants and government supports available for your business model and industry.

If required we can assist you with completing a grant or funding application and/or business plan.
